1. The issue of race - does the government do too little or too much to reduce the instances of racial discrimination? Why or how so?
I personally think the government has done just about the right amount to reduce the instances of racial discrimination. There are now laws where an employer cant turn down a person the job due to their race. We have actually came a long way with racial discrimination from how it was. I think the government trys to stop racial discrimination, but there is still going to be issues with it due to certain people that don't like if someone is a different race then them.
2. The issue of gender
Personally I think that the government has done just enough in the issue of gender. One reason is a woman can get a job at a construction job now and keep the job if she can keep up with the men. A man can get a job in the kitchen cooking for a resturant just as must as a woman.Men and women get paid the same amount based on their job level. A women can get a promotion to a higher level in a job just as well as a man.
3. The issue of sexual orientation
I think sexual orientation is a big issue that the government really needs to start increasing support. It's not like a same sex marriage is doing harm to anyone. You can't help who you fall in love with is the way I look at it. Why should the government be able to say who we can marry or not? If two people of the same sex want to get married it should be their business and not the government.

Chapter 4
1. Freedom of Speech: How important is it? Does the freedom go "too far"? What areas of speech should not be protected?
The freedom of speech is very important. It is our right to say what is on our mind and what we believe in. In my opinion the freedom does not go too far. I think that hate speech should not be protected.
2. Freedom of Religion: Is separation of church and state necessary? Why or why not?
Yes the separation of church and state is necessary. It's necessary because if the state says its a Christian state that would be all the churchs in that state. In Lafollette, Tennessee only there is alot of different religions let alone in the state of Tennessee. Then, people that have a different religion for instance Catholics wouldnt have a church they could go to.
3. Criminal Procedure: Are defendant's rights crucial to our system of government? Why or why not? Many argue that defendants have too many rights - do you agree? Why or why not?
Yes the defendent's rights are crucial to our system of government. If these right's where not there we wouldnt have privacy in our own homes pretty much. No I do not agree that defendants have too many rights. Them rights are to protectus from getting wrongly done by the law.

Chapter 3
1) Is a strong national government necessary or should the state government have an equal share of power? Why? I think that a strong national government isn't necessary and that the state government should have equal power. If the state government had equal power it would help to bring a better society to our state. in a way to speak bring the state government to our level.
2) National power increased during the Great Depression but then power began to shift back to the states (somewhat) during the Reagan administration? Why did that happen and is that shift appropriate? National power increased during the Great Depression because its people was looking for help as a nation. There wasnt just one poor state the nation was poor. The power began to shift back to the states during the Raegan administration because the economy began to go up Reagan helped with businesses to grow larger; when the businesses started to grow larger more people could get jobs. Raegan pushed for less government in national power and more for state power.
3) Education stirs much discussion relating to the issue of federalism. Should the national government regulate education or is it a matter best left to state and local governments? Why? I think that schools should regulate on a national government. Some schools do get more funds then others, I think each school the same amount of funds. Teachers should get paid more in my opinion to. They are the ones that teach our children and the children of the future. Education honestly does not seem fair to me. They need to quite paying all the attention to the students that dont want to learn and more to the students that do want to learn. If all schools and states where on the same level on education maybe our children of the future would feel more successful in school.

Chapter 2
The United States Constitution is stronger than the Articles of Confederation due to the Constition has government powerful enough to ensure public order yet contain enough gateways to ensure individual liberty, where the Ariticles of Confederation was individual states could make their chose. The history of the United States would probably of been different if we still operated under the Articles. There would probably of been more wars state against state. I have learned that Congress can overturn a presidential veto with a two-thirds vote to each chamber. The Supreme Court ruling in Marbury v. Madison is very important. The ruling is important do to because now the if the Congress passes a law that violates the Constitution the Supreme Court can stike it down. Looking at United States government today it is more like the Anti-Federalist due to the government is trying to take our guns which is in the Bill of Rights and Bill of Rights goes right hand in hand with the Constitution.
